White House Hotel Garden

Restaurant

All the food is cooked and prepared by chef / proprietor Ian. We source many of our ingredients locally, such as organic beef from Becklands Farm and fish from Lyme Bay.

We grow herbs, fruit and vegetables in our walled garden, most of which finds its way into the kitchen and is used on that evening's menu.

We also have our own free range chickens which occasionally provide us with enough eggs for breakfast.

We are happy and able to cater for most dietary requirements, whether it is vegetarian, vegan, gluten free ... just let us know when booking.

Drinks before and after dinner are served in the lounge where, on the cooler nights, there will be a log fire burning.

On warmer nights we may open the French windows and you can sit out on the terrace in the shade of our hundred-year old Magnolia tree!

We are committed to using seasonal and sustainable produce.

Menus are changed daily.

TOTW JUDGES COMMENTS

Supplier Listings: There was a long list of suppliers and producers on each menu plus a statement about local sourcing and relationships with producers.

Menu: There were very good choices on the menu – it is a small menu and obviously well chosen. Each course had been chosen to reflect seasonality even the puddings.

Meal Presentation: Perfect. Faultless.

Meal itself: Again, faultless with skilled cooking. The flavours were combined with great skill and thought. The Wyld Meadow lamb with celeriac was absolutely delicious. The Cornish monkfish was superb. The Dorset apple cake was as light as a feather and served with tiny blackberries in a compote and clotted cream. Perfect seasonal food.

Service: The door was opened for us and we were greeted with a smile. From first to last the service was excellent; professional, attentive and knowledgeable and we were welcomed just the same as the overnight guests. Ian came to talk to all the guests and spoke about his love of food and how he feels that the south west has the best ingredients to work with.

Atmosphere/Ambience: The restaurant is in a beautiful and spotlessly clean room.

We feel that after ten years the White House Hotel deserves a special award for keeping their standards this high.
