The White House is our beautiful four bedroomed Regency Villa in the centre of the coastal village of Charmouth. Surrounded on three sides by the glorious West Dorset countryside and the sea to the south, we are just a five minute walk to the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic coastline and its famous fossil beach.
The hotel was extensively refurbished in the spring of 2013 and our four large rooms/suites gained us an AA Four Star Gold rating which we have retained in 2014. We were also given AA Awards for our breakfasts and dinners.
We do not offer our rooms through Laterooms, Trivago, TripAdvisor, Booking.com etc. who charge up to 20% commission on bookings which is invariably passed on to the customer. ON OCT 16TH 2014 WE ATTENDED THIS YEARS DORSET TOURISM AWARDS CEREMONY AT THE VERY WONDERFUL TANK MUSEUM IN BOVINGTON WHERE WE WERE DELIGHTED TO DISCOVER WE HAD WON THE GOLD AWARD IN THE B&B CATEGORY FOR 2014.
We were also very pleased to be told in June of this year that we had retained out Gold awards from Taste of the West in the B&B and Restaurant Categories. The Judges comments can be seen here on our reviews page. We were also finalists in both categories in the regional awards held in Bristol in September
Liz and I met whilst working for P&O Cruises aboard the MV 'Sea Princess' in the 1990s and upon leaving the ships, we harboured an ambition to buy our own hotel. We achieved this in 2001 when we bought the White House. Our wonderful staff Tracey and Hannah have been part of our team for 10 years and now our children Mollie and Tom help out (sometimes willingly) in the kitchen, restaurant and bedrooms at weekends.
Since we opened we have always aimed to use the best of local and seasonal produce, some grown in our own kitchen garden. West Dorset is an amazing place for fish, seafood, artisan cheeses, superbly reared meat as well as an abundance of seasonal vegetables and fruit and we are able to take advantage of this in our kitchen. We use many local suppliers and a list of who they are can be found here.
